Made-in-USA, slip-resistant porcelain cut to 6 x 6 for the renovated pool, plunge and hot tubs at Chelsea Piers Fitness on the Hudson River.
The brief
Chelsea Piers Fitness renovated its pool overlooking the Hudson River, along with the co-ed plunge and hot tubs. Pool tile has a tough job: it is wet all day, it is barefoot all day, and it has to stay safe and look good for years.
What we supplied
We supplied porcelain made in the USA, in a slip-resistant grip finish, in black and dark gray. The tile was cut down to 6 x 6 inches for the pool areas.
How it came together
The grip-finish porcelain started as 12 x 24 inch tile. We had it cut down to 6 x 6 before it went to the site. A smaller tile follows the slopes around a pool more easily and puts more grout lines underfoot, which helps traction on wet feet.
Because the tile is made in the USA, it shipped domestically to be cut, then on to the club.
The result
The renovated pool pairs dark, slip-resistant tile with views of the Hudson. It is built for daily use by a busy club, with a finish that gives swimmers sure footing from the pool to the hot tubs.
