Lava stone
Volcanic stone with a kiln-fired glaze, made to order: tile in twenty-six colors, and tables, counters, basins and fireplaces cut and glazed to your drawings.
Lava stone is volcanic basalt. It is cut, coated with a glass enamel and fired at high heat, and the glaze fuses into the porous stone. The result is a deep, glassy color with a fine crackle and a hint of the raw stone at the edges. It shrugs off sun, frost, heat and stains, which is why glazed lava has topped European café tables and outdoor counters for two hundred years.
We offer it two ways. Glazed lava tile comes in the twenty-six colors below, from 3/8-inch mosaic chips to panels up to about 47 x 24 inches and rounds up to about 24 inches, flat, fluted or sculpted, all made to order. Oversize pieces, from counters and tables to vanities, basins and fireplaces, are cut and glazed by hand in an Italian workshop to your drawing.
Everything is made to order. Tile takes about 10 to 12 weeks from an approved sample; slabs and furniture are quoted piece by piece. We send fired samples first and stay with you through installation.

Twenty-six glaze colors
Glazed lava tile · made to order
Each glaze is fired by hand, so color and crackle shift from tile to tile; that movement is the point. Screens cannot show glaze depth, so we send real fired samples before you order. Any color can also be matched to a paint chip.

Slabs, tables and pieces
Made to order · cut and glazed to your drawingGlazed panels, table tops and fluted pieces are made to order up to about 47 x 24 inches, and rounds up to about 24 inches across. For oversize counters, tables, vanities, basins, benches and fireplaces, we work with an Italian workshop that cuts lava from the block and glazes each piece by hand, in a single color, a fade or a painted pattern. These are fine, slow pieces: each one is quoted from your drawing.
