Hotel Bardo, Savannah
A pool deck in custom-color porcelain made to the designers' palette, mauve and two greens, plus tile for the guest rooms, for the hotel that put Savannah on every hot list.
★ Michelin Key (2024) · recognized by Condé Nast Traveler and Interior Design

The brief
Hotel Bardo took a 19th-century mansion on Forsyth Park and turned it into a 149-room hotel with a members' club, a Mediterranean restaurant and a pool court at its heart. The developer, Left Lane, and its designers wanted the pool deck to read like a painting: three soft colors in a pattern of their own, not a catalog tile in a catalog color.
What we supplied
Custom-color porcelain for the Club Bardo pool deck, made to order in three colors chosen by the design team: a mauve in 12 x 12 inch, and a light green and a dark green in 8 x 8 inch, all with a slip-resistant R11 surface for the wet deck, about 8,400 square feet in all, with a white 10 x 10 for the pavilion and pavers for the surrounds. We also supplied tile for the guest rooms and their baths, and attic stock for the property.
How it came together
The colors did not exist, so we had them developed: the designers' references went to our partner factory in Spain, glaze samples came back for approval, and the three colors were fired as a single run so the deck would match end to end. The tile shipped by the container to Savannah ahead of the 2024 opening, and because the recipe is on file, the hotel has reordered the same colors twice since, most recently in 2026, matched to what is already in the ground.
The result
Hotel Bardo opened in 2024 to the kind of reception a new hotel dreams of: a Michelin Key, a place on Condé Nast Traveler's lists and an Interior Design award for its interiors. The pool deck is in half the photographs. It is now one of the first projects we show.
