The Mercer Hotel

Honed Danby marble baths and Belgian bluestone floors for The Mercer Hotel's renovated guest rooms, sorted by vein and delivered floor by floor.

The Mercer Hotel

The brief

The Mercer is one of SoHo's best-known hotels, and its look is quiet on purpose: clean lines, real materials, nothing loud. When the hotel renovated its guest bathrooms, it needed stone that fit that style and stayed consistent from the first floor to the last.

What we supplied

We supplied Montclair Danby marble for the bathrooms, in a honed finish, with Belgian bluestone for the floors. The Danby came as 18 x 18 inch honed tile, along with slabs and mosaics for the same rooms. In all, more than 20,000 square feet of Danby went into the job.

How it came together

Danby is a natural marble, so no two pieces are the same. To keep the rooms looking calm and even, every piece was handpicked and the tile was separated into two groups before it shipped: light to medium vein, and medium to dark vein. That let the installers keep each bathroom in one range instead of mixing them.

The renovation ran floor by floor from 2024 into 2026, so the stone was delivered in phases to match the work, not all at once.

The result

The finished baths pair soft white marble with the deep gray of the bluestone. They look like they have always belonged to the building, which was the point. It is also proof that a lean team can handle a job of this size: one spec, thousands of pieces, room after room that matches.
