Theodosia

The brief

Theodosia is a seaside restaurant. For the bar, the designer wanted patterned tile with a sea theme, in colors chosen just for this room.

What we supplied

We supplied custom-color glazed tile for the bar, made to the designer's colors:

• An ivory gloss field tile
• Red Greek-key and wave borders
• Decorative medallions
• Large picture panels made of many tiles, including a mermaid and an octopus

How it came together

This was made-to-order tile, not something from stock. The ivory and red glazes were matched to the designer's colors, and the motifs were laid out across several tiles each, so they read as one picture on the wall.

The order was air-freighted door to door so the bar could open on time.

The result

The finished bar has the warmth of old painted tile with crisp, clean color. The ivory field keeps it calm, and the red borders and sea creatures give the room its personality. It shows what our custom color program can do when a designer has a clear idea. The designer picks the color, from a Pantone chip or a paint deck, and the tile is made to match.
